At 171115H Company C received 25 rounds of recoilless rifle fire from vicinity of YD066655

At 171245H Co C found one enemy mortar position, NVA helmet and first aid pouch in vicinity of (YD 064636). Equipment sent to S-2 3d Marines.

At 191100H co C found 12 bunkers approximately 3 months old in vicinity (YD 058638). Fresh foot prints and various NVA personal gear were found in the same area. Bunkers were destroyed and gear sent to S-2 3d Marines.

At 201230H Co C found 30 well constructed bunkers with .50mm1 ammo, Ak-47 magazines, cocking equipment and personal equipment vicinity of (YD 034631). All bunkers and ammo were destroyed.

On 211100H Co C found and destroyed 3 rocket firing sites, 1 anti-aircraft position, 2 ammunition bunkers and 3 living bunkers each with room for 5-7peoople in vicinity of (YD 026629).

At 231800 Co C received 4 rounds incoming believed to be 75MM howitzer from vicinity of (YD 033647). Fired artillery mission with unknown results.

at 241800H Co C received 6 rounds of incoming believed to be 82 artillery from vicinity (YD 036663). AO checked … area with negative results.

At 2515H 1/3 helilifted to the vicinity of (YD 177713 and commenced operations in the vicinity of Leatherneck Square. OPCOP of 1/3 passed to the 1st Marines.

At 261400H OPCON of 1/3 passed from 1st Marines to 1st Bde, 5th Inf Div (Mech).

At 270040H Co C heard movement in front of lines vicinity of (YD 194699). A Marine threw one grenade close to a friendly position wounding one Marine. Results 1 USMC WIA (MedEvac).

At 27104OH 1/3 received approximately 38 rounds of medium caliber artillery. AO spotted flashers (YD 150742) MD called in artillery with unknown results.

At 27150O0H Co C found 22 NVA bodies buried in hasty graves vicinity (YD 189690). They also found 27 82MM mortar rounds 6 60mm mortar rounds, 7 RPG rounds, 8 claymores, 1 Soviet anti-tank mine, and 10 pounds of rice in 10-15 bunkers at same location. Bunkers and ammunition was destroyed.

At 281600 OPCON of 1/3 was passed from 1st Bde, 5th Inf Div (mech) to 3d Marines

At 281600H 1/3 assumed OPCON of E/2/3. OPCON of B/1/3 passed to 2/3. OPCON D/1/3 passed to Hdqt Bn, 3d MARDiv

at 300800H 1/3 (-) condcuted a supporting arms/PSYOPS operation. Artillery, air support, tanks, twin 40MM M42, ONTOS and all organic infantry weapons coordinated their fires on enemy forces in the vicinity of the RAZOR BACK. Attached Psyops teams broadcast Cheui Hoi propaganda throughout the day. The operation secured at 301900H. Aerial observers reported numerous secondary explosions from air and artillery.

At 301845H 1/3 vicinity of (XD 983545) received 10 rounds of light artillery and rockets from vicinity (XD 938588). Called in counter artillery fire with unknown results

As the month of August ended 1st Bn, 3d Marines continued aggressive patrolling in its assigned AO.
