July 20 68

Dear Mom & Family,

How is everyone getting along back in the state & at home. I am just fine. I landed in DaNang this morning at 5 o'clock. I am now waiting on a plane to Dang Ha. I don't know where I am going to from there. I have been assigned to the first Battalion third Marines. It is 20 minutes until ten now. I haven't seen Danny and don't think I will. So send me his address and I will write him. DaNang seems to be a very nice place. I wish I could be stationed here.

Tell everyone I said Hi and not to worry about little olde me. Tell daddy I will send him the $80 as soon as I get paid, OK. Please don't worry, everything will be alright, OK? It's not as hot here as it was in Okinawa, but it's still hot. The water here tastes awful. If you can me some kool-aid I sure would appreciate it. Well I haven't got much to say right now. But I will probably write some more on this letter later on.

4:30 PM

Here I am again. I just landed in Dong Ho. The landing strip is made of pieces of steel and it is very dry and dusty here. I have been here 30 minutes already and I am covered with brown dust. They are going to send me somewhere else, but I don't know where yet. I will write some more when I find out where I am going to be.

I am at Quan Tri. I don't know if that is spelled right but it will do for a start. Its next to the DMZ. We can see the Mountains and the DMZ is on the other side. All we have to drink here is warm beer. I pick up my jungle utility boots and rifle and bayonet. I never did see Danny.

I have to go now because it is dark and I can't see how to write. Write soon.

Love, CC
